It's not uncommon to have a complicated relationship with a boss or manager — but employers in some industries are struggling to stay in their workforce's good graces more than others.
As many as 35% of U.S. employees are unhappy in their roles, according to Apollo Technical, a talent solutions platform, and much of that discontent is due to their managers. In light of that, online slot machine tracking tool Slot Tracker sent out a survey to employees across all 50 states asking whether or not they like their boss — and if they do, why.
The results were compiled according to state and industry, and were further broken down by age and gender to better understand where the discrepancies are occurring.

Slot Tracker's survey revealed that employees working in the media and internet industry had the best relationship with their bosses, with 84.4% expressing a positive opinion about them. And among the age groups within the industry, Gen Z and a large portion of millennials — individuals aged between 18-34 — were found to be the most fond of their bosses, with 95.2% responding favorably about them. Bosses in the IT sector came in third place with 78.3%, most of whom were praised for their good management skills — a common theme across the top-rated industries.
The sales industry was the least fond of their leadership, with only 24.7% of employees saying they liked their boss — over three times less than employees in the media and internet industries. Employees aged 50-69 years old working in sales were found to be the most unhappy with their boss relationships, followed closely by 35-49 year olds working in retail.
