Scottish social care charity Turning Point Scotland has been ordered to pay £4,000 in compensation to a former employee, after it was found to have contributed to her emotional distress. A Glasgow employment tribunal heard that the charity was accused of the unfair dismissal and breach of contract of S Mutter, its lead practitioner in criminal justice services, following a row over breast reduction surgery, which was recommended to her by an NHS surgeon.

The average usage figure for employee assistance programmes (EAPs) among UK employers in 2022 reached 12%, compared with 11.4% last year, according to the Employee Assistance Professionals Association (EAPA). The report Financial return on EAPs 2023: Managing the rise of complexity and employees at risk was based on evidence provided by HR professionals through the EAPA’s return on investment (ROI) calculator, using anonymised information from 11 million employees.

Conversely, 22.2% of respondents hosted a festive party for their employees, and 20% gave their workforce a Christmas bonus. Meanwhile, 32.5% awarded their staff with both a party and a bonus to celebrate the holiday season.
