Facilities management and professional services business Mitie has launched a £10 million winter support package to help its workforce with the rising costs of living.
The employer stated that it is focusing its support on its lowest-paid employees, with 40,000 set to benefit.
As of this month, Mitie has launched a new £1,000 bikes-for-work scheme. Next month, workers earning up to £30,000 will be gifted a £50 e-voucher through MiDeals, which is Mitie’s internal deals portal, and can be used at more than 100 retailers including Boots, Asda, Tesco and Argos.
The business’ winter support package initiative for January will be a one-off bonus of up to £125. The amount staff receive will depend on the number of hours they have worked in a week and is for those earning up to £30,000. International workers earning up to the equivalent of £30,000 will receive a one-off £100 bonus.
In March, the organisation stated that it will gift free shares for all of its employees for the third year running. Shares have risen by 25% since the first year that this took place.
Jasmine Hudson, chief people officer at Mitie, said: “Our winter support package is designed to help staff with the rising cost of living. Through a combination of e-vouchers, a one-off bonus, free shares, a new [bikes-for-work] scheme and removing the fee to draw down salary advances, the package will benefit 40,000 of our lowest-paid workers across the business.
“It also forms part of our wider employer value proposition refresh ‘Together we are Mitie’ which champions our everyday heroes at Mitie, and the often unseen impact our staff have on millions of people every day.”
