Healthcare is a notoriously difficult industry, where the hours are often long and the stakes are high — but some employers make job seekers better offers than others.

U.S. News and World Report released its annual list of the best companies to work for by industry, rating healthcare companies based on pay, benefits, work-life balance, flexibility and job and company stability. U.S. News specifically looked at public companies in the Russell 1000 index as of June 2022 that had a minimum of 75 U.S.-based Glassdoor reviews, gathering data on benefits and general employee sentiments. Companies that made the list — including Johnson and Johnson, Lilly and Aligent — tended to offer benefits like paid caregiver leave, fertility assistance and child care help.

It's up to jobseekers to prioritize what they want to see in their next job offer.

"When searching for a healthcare company to work for, job seekers need to evaluate the pay, benefits and cultural factors most important to them," says Susannah Snider, managing editor for money at U.S. News. "Depending on where you are in your career, your outside responsibilities and other priorities, different facets of a company may be more important to you when evaluating a job offer."

Healthcare professionals can start their search with a list of companies that have already been vetted, and at least begin to pinpoint what benefits and work culture they're looking for.

Here are 15 companies rated best in healthcare this year.
