Smallest Firms See Largest Health Insurance Hikes

InterWest Insurance Services

A new report has found that small businesses that purchase their group health insurance online or through payroll vendors saw the largest premium hikes in 2022, significantly higher than those that went through brokers. Overall rates for employers with 10 or fewer employees saw their family plan health insurance premiums jump 12% from 2021, compared to just 5.4% for all small to mid-sized businesses with up to 250 employees, according to the report by HR and benefits software company Ease.

Royal College of Midwives accepts NHS pay deal

Members of the Royal College of Midwives (RCM) in England have voted to accept the NHS’ latest pay offer, following a consultation earlier this week. A total of 57% of eligible RCM midwife and maternity support workers voted to accept the deal and 43% rejected it, with an overall turnout of 48%. The pay deal built on the consolidated £1,400 or 4% pay award imposed for 2022/23 and included a non-consolidated lump sum of 2% of salary, and a one-off backlog bonus.
