WCIRB Announces New Food & Beverage
Classifications effective September 1, 2024

**CLASSIFICATION CHANGE EFFECTIVE 9/1/24**

The WCIRB has announced that for all policies incepting on or after September 1, 2024, any operations that were previously assignable to Classification 9079(1), Restaurants or Taverns, will be now reassigned to one of six (6) new classifications as follows:

The recommendation to divide Classification 9079(1), Restaurants or Taverns, into six new classifications was the result of a multi-year WCIRB study on the Food and Beverage Service Industry Group.

Until further research and analysis of payroll and claims are conducted in 2026, these new food and beverage classifications will be combined for rate-making purposes and will have the same advisory pure premium rate.

Five of these six classifications are part of the new Food and Beverage Service Industry Group. The new industry group also includes the following classifications applicable to food and beverage service operations:

  • 8078(1), Sandwich Shops
  • 8078(2), Beverage Preparation Shops
  • 8078(3), Ice Cream or Frozen Yogurt Shops
  • 9081(2), Concessionaires
