In early January, Shopify unilaterally canceled all meetings of more than two people, saving a reported 95,000 hours. As is often the case, the specifics tell a slightly different story. They announced that: Staff are required to scrap recurring meetings with more than three people in attendance. There are no meetings on Wednesdays. Supermarket chain Asda has launched a consultation into lowering pay by about 5% for around 7,000 employees working just outside of London. The consultation involves employees at 39 stores outside of the M25 and close to London, which have historically received a higher rate of pay because of their location. The consultation was launched to explore whether it is appropriate for staff at these stores to receive a higher rate of pay than the rest of the workforce.

IPSE (the Association of Independent Professionals and the Self-Employed) has welcomed new figures from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) showing year-on-year growth in self-employment. There are 154,000 more self-employed than this time last year. In total, there are now 4.4 million operating in the UK. The data also revealed a significant rise in the number of women choosing to work for themselves, with an additional 93,000 self-employed women compared to the same time last year.
