When it comes to addiction, whether to alcohol or drugs (legal/prescription, illegal or otherwise), HR policy tends to lean towards disciplinaries. Although addiction doesn’t meet the definition of “disability” under the Equality Act 2010 2 it might well lead to – or be a response to – a physical or mental health condition which does qualify.
