Spring Budget 2023: The government has introduced 30 hours of free childcare for parents with children under the age of three, according to Chancellor of the Exchequer Jeremy Hunt’s statement to the House of Commons today (15 March 2023). Only applicable to households where parents are working more than 16 hours a week, the provision will be during term time and last 38 weeks of the year, estimated to reduce childcare costs by around 60%.

Today the UK’s Chancellor of the Exchequer, Jeremy Hunt presented his Spring Budget to the House of Commons. In it he announced what her referred to as his ‘four pillars’ of industrial and productivity strategy, namely: ‘Enterprise’, ‘Employment’, ‘Education’, and ‘Everywhere’. Perhaps the headline element of this announcement was the creation of twelve new investment zones across the UK as well as incentives for older workers to return to the country’s patchy workforce.

Spring Budget 2023: Chancellor of the Exchequer Jeremy Hunt has introduced a government white paper on disability workplace reform, as part of an aim to address the two million people who are economically inactive due to disability or long-term sickness. In his Spring Budget statement today (15 March 2023), Hunt noted that the number of disabled people in work had risen by two million since 2013.

The government has therefore increased the pensions annual tax free allowance by 50%, from £40,000 to £60,000.
